چکیده
INTRODUCTION Healthcare improvement has allowed increasingly aggressive management in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for hematology-oncology patients. These intensified treatments have been associated with severe neutropenia which has been identified as the most important risk factor for infectious complications in patients with neoplastic diseases[1-3]. As a result, infections become an important cause of morbidity and mortality and are associated with prolonged hospital stay and increased healthcare costs[4,5]. Therefore, the present study was undertaken to study the incidence of healthcare associated infections affecting adult patients with leukemia during their admission to Kuwait Caner Control Center (KCCC). The study also aimed to identify types and microbial etiology of such infections as a step towards improving infection control policies. In addition, testing of antimicrobial Original Article

Background: Adult T cell leukemia lymphoma (ATLL) is a rare disease, significantly linked to the infection by the human T-cell lymphotropic virus 1(HTLV-1). ATLL is typically preceded by decades of clinical latency during which infected cells accumulate selectable traits leading to a malignant transformation. Amongst all the HTLV-1 infected carriers only about 3-5% will develop ATLL. Despite th...

متن کاملDown regulation of GTPase regulator associated with the focal adhesion kinase (GRAF) gene expression in patients with acute myeloblastic leukemia
Introduction: GTPase regulator associated with focal adhesion kinase (GRAF) is a recently identified GTPase activating protein that has the tumor suppressor properties. However, the expression level of GRAF in leukemia had received less attention. The main purpose of this research was the evaluating of the expression level of GRAF in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Materials and met...
